The Eurofighter Typhoon is a twin-engine multi-role fighter built by a European consortium made up of the UK, Germany, Spain and Italy. With 4 countries involved it is necessary to have what they call Tranches (similar to contracts) that are broken down into batches and blocks. The development of the Eurofighter began in 1983 with the prototype maiden flight of the Eurofighter taking place on March 27th, 1994. The first fully equipped Tranche 2 Instrumented Production Aircraft (IPA7) took to the skies on January 16th, 2008.
Eurofighter EF-2000 98+07 began as 30+44 c/n 151/GS029/PA7, a regular Luftwaffe registration but when it was designated as a test aircraft the registration changed to 98+07. On January 19, 2022 Instrumented Production Aircraft (IPA7) 98+07 completed its maiden flight wearing the new colorful paint scheme. This celebrated the 60 years Airbus has been located at Manching. Airbus uses Manching as one of their locations to test military design and development. The blue and white scheme represents the Bavarian flag and the tail displays various shapes of aircraft from the past and for the future.
