Herpa 1/200th scale High Density Plastic Snap-Fit 614986 American Airlines Boeing 777-300ER – Flagship Heritage Livery – N735AT. Available to pre-order at Flying Tigers.
On April 25, 1926, a young pilot and flight instructor named Charles Lindbergh joined the Missouri-based Robertson Aircraft Corporation to carry mail on a mail route between St. Louis and Chicago. This first flight was the humble beginning of what is now the world’s largest airline in terms of the number of passengers carried and the number of flights operated daily. After numerous mergers and acquisitions, the conglomerate of airlines was merged in 1930 under the name American Airways before being renamed American Air Lines four years later. Fittingly, American has carried over the historic “flagship” livery to its current flagship, the Boeing 777-300ER. The iconic orange lightning bolt motif made its debut on the Douglas DC-3 almost 90 years ago. All DC-3s were named after cities the airline flew to at the time, such as “Flagship Knoxville”, which is on display at the CR Smith Museum in Fort Worth, Texas. This special anniversary Triple Seven will initially be released by Herpa in 1:500 and 1:200 scales.
