Model Description
Herpa 1/200th scale 574051 CSA Czechoslovak Airlines Tupolev TU-154M – OK-TCC “Teplice”. Available to pre-order at Flying Tigers.
The popular workhorse, developed in the Soviet Union, was put into service in 1988 with the then Czechoslovak CSA. Thanks to its exceptional performance and robust construction, the TU-154 was very popular with crews and was suitable for use at shorter or less well-equipped airfields. A total of seven of these three-engine aircraft were used mainly on routes to Europe and the Middle East from Prague, replacing older turboprop types such as the Ilyushin IL-18. OK-TCC is named after the town of Teplice, a popular spa town in the north-west of the Czech Republic, whose thermal springs have been documented since 1154. As noise, emissions and efficiency standards were tightened and Western twin-engines became increasingly available, the CSA retired its TU-154 in favor of Western models until 1999. Some of these aircraft were resold and used by other airlines or governments. OK-TCC was first sold to China United Airlines, which at the time was operated by the People’s Liberation Army Air Force as a commercial airline, and later handed over to the 102nd Air Regiment in Beijing, where it remained in service until the early 2020s. A display stand is included.
