In 2018, the US Navy ordered 44 aircraft of the tiltrotor aircraft under the service designation CMV-22B for rescue missions and to supply aircraft carrier groups on the high seas. Compared to the standard variant, which is used by the Marine Corps in large numbers, the Navy version received a longer range due to the installation of additional tanks. One of the four units currently deployed by this naval variant is the “Fleet Logistics Multi-Mission Squadron 40” (40th Fleet Logistics Multi-Purpose Squadron), which was only newly established in 2022 and is assigned to the Atlantic Fleet.
