Model Description
Herpa 1/200th scale Lufthansa Lockheed L-1649A Super Star Roll-out, Hamburg, January 17, 2025 – D-ALAN. Available to pre-order at Flying Tigers.
In the 1950s, the Lockheed L-1649 was considered the quintessential symbol of innovation and elegance. In 1957, the “Super Star” joined the Lufthansa fleet and was given the Senator class as the most exclusive type of travel for the first time. The focus of the mission was the connection to New York, non-stop across the North Atlantic. With its four piston engines, it closed the chapter of classic propeller aircraft. These flights, which lasted up to 17 hours, took off from Hamburg, where the maintenance base was also located. Therefore, the roll-out of the restored D-ALAN took place on January 20, 2025 at a location that is equally important for Lufthansa and Lufthansa Technik. There it also received a new cabin, which is based on the style of the 1950s. The seats come from a former Lufthansa A340, are elaborately redesigned and covered in burgundy leather. The carpet and curtains are also based on historical patterns. After the roll-out, however, it was dismantled again into larger segments and transported by heavy transport to Münster/Osnabrück Airport. There, the livery was recreated in Lufthansa’s original design from the so-called parabolic phase. Finally, the Super Star arrived in Frankfurt in October. Just in time for the 100th anniversary of the founding of the first Lufthansa, it will be the main attraction of the Lufthansa Group’s new conference and visitor centre from spring 2026 onwards, together with the legendary Junkers Ju 52 D-AQUI.
