With the Tu-22M, the tupolev design office first tried its hand at a design with swivel wings in the 1960s. Above all, they should ensure good take-off and landing characteristics, an economical cruise flight and, if necessary, supersonic flight regimes with wings swivelled back. The main production version was the Tu-22M3, which flew for the first time in June 1977: For the complex training on the bomber, the 43rd Center for Combat Training and Retraining in Dyagilevo still exists today. In addition to some other aircraft, some Tu-22M3, including RF-34075, are located at the site for training purposes of the candidates for service in the bomber aviation forces.
