Model Description
Herpa 1/200th scale 571401 High Density Plastic Ukraine Air Alliance Antonov AN-12 – UR-CNT. Available to pre-order at Flying Tigers.
More than 1,200 units of the transporter with the NATO type code “Cub” were built from 1957 to 1973 in various plants in the Soviet Union and, similar to the American counterpart Lockheed C-130, served in a wide variety of missions. Around 250 of the robust Antonovs are still in military and civilian use. For the latter, Antonov developed the AN-12B version in 1963 without a machine gun stand in the rear and an AN-12BP variant equipped with further improved electronics and two additional tanks. One of the numerous post-communist cargo airlines is the Ukraine Air Alliance (UAA). The airline was founded in Kiev in 1992 and used practically all Soviet-designed air cargo transporters worldwide in civil cargo operations, from the small AN-2 to the mighty AN-124. Since 2020, the fleet has focused on four AN-12BPs, including the UR-CNT. Attractively designed in a dark blue outfit, this now 55-year-old classic car still reliably flies up to 20 tons of cargo across the globe.
