Model Description
Herpa 1/200th scale 571104-001 Air France Douglas DC-4. Available to pre-order at Flying Tigers.
The introduction of the Douglas DC-4 opened up new destinations for numerous airlines in the rebuilding period after World War II. First delivered in 1946 – 80 years ago – Air France started Paris-New York flights with the four-engine DC-4, covering the distance with two refueling stops in Shannon, Ireland and Gander, Canada in less than 20 hours. This new addition sports the revised livery introduced in 1950. The main difference was the change from an all-natural-metal finish to a design featuring a white top fuselage. This change was part of a broader trend in aviation at the time, aimed at improving visibility of the Air France logo and titles, helping to distinguish the aircraft and its brand from competitors. Be sure to check out the historically decorated stairs with the legendary winged sea horse (item no. 571876). This set makes a perfect addition to this Douglas DC-4.
