Developed from the Boeing 707, the E-3 Sentry is still indispensable for the US Air Force today. Since its introduction in 1977, a total of 34 aircraft have been delivered to the U.S. Armed Forces, 30 of which are still in service today. Four of these constantly modernized aircraft are in service with Alaska and Japan as part of the Pacific Air Forces. Since 1979, the 961st Squadron has been stationed at Kadena Air Force Base on the Japanese island of Okinawa, providing surveillance, command and communications for the 18th Squadron and its seven other squadrons.
