The acquisition of US Airways in 1998 also increased the number of predecessor companies that formed today’s American Airlines. Founded in 1949 in San Diego, California, Pacific Southwest Airlines (PSA) called itself the “friendliest airline in the world” and underlined this with a hint of a smile on the bow of its “smileliners”. American Airlines has recently transferred the retro livery already created by US Airways to this Airbus A321. This innovation complements the A319s already produced by two other predecessor airlines, Piedmont Airlines and Allegheny Airlines. The small series of American Airlines Heritage liveries is still being continued.
