Model Description
Herpa 1/500th scale 537872 Spanish Air Force Airbus A400M Atlas (T.23) – 31st Wing (Ala 31), Zaragoza – 50 Aniversario. Available to pre-order at Flying Tigers.
On the arrival of TK.23-14 after a short domestic flight from the Airbus factory in Seville to the location of the 31st Squadron in Zaragoza, this A400M was greeted with a special ceremony by high-ranking representatives of the Air Force and Airbus. Not only was it the 14th A400M Atlas that entered service with Spain’s Ejército del Aire, but it also arrived for delivery in time to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 31st Squadron. Founded in 1973 as the 301st Squadron, the unit began operations with C-130 Hercules transporters in the same year. Five years later, the squadron was upgraded to a squadron, which now consisted of two squadrons. The A400M, designated in Spain as T.23 and TK.23 for the versions with (modular) provisions for air refuelling, replaced the C-130 Hercules from 2016. The new state-of-the-art transporter, which can carry more cargo, faster and over longer distances than its predecessor, underlines the unit’s motto “Lo que sea, donde sea y cuando sea” – “Whatever, wherever and whenever”.
