As the pioneers of the British heavy metal scene, Iron Maiden are the most successful band in their genre. The band, founded in 1975, is a global phenomenon with performances in 60 countries so far. For their last three world tours, the band and crew travelled with their equipment in specially designed aircraft. In allusion to her mascot Eddie called “Ed Force One”, each aircraft adorned the design of the respective album and the accompanying world tour. The pilot was none other than lead singer Bruce Dickinson himself, who also works as a pilot for the charter airline Astraeus. The two Boeing 757s that were used on the two tours in 2008 and 2011 also come from this. On the Somewhere Back In Time tour, “Ed Force One” carried the band with a mummified “Eddie” on the tail unit to a total of 90 appearances in 2008 and 2009. A documentation of the tour with the 757 in a central role appeared under the title “Flight 666” in cinemas worldwide.
