Despite the entry into service of more than 150 Boeing 737 Max aircraft, no fewer than 320 Next Generation 737s, including 141 Boeing 737-800s, such as this one with the registration N87531, are in service throughout United Airlines’ vast network. As early as 2013, United became the launch customer for the Split Scimitar winglets, which further reduce drag and thus save fuel. In the meantime, most of the fleet, which was originally delivered with only one upward-facing blended winglet (with a smooth transition from the wing to the winglet), has been retrofitted with the second, smaller winglet.
