Herpa 1/160th scale 019422 BEA British European Airways Junkers JU-52 “Jupiter” – G-AHOG. Buy now online at Flying Tigers.
British European Airways operated ten Ju-52s between 1946 and 1948. The government of the United Kingdom founded BEA in 1946, initially for European flights, and from 1947 also for domestic flights. To comply with this, BEA flew a motley fleet, which also included ten Ju-52s captured by defeated Germany. Since “Junkers” sounds like “junk” in English, BEA renamed the aircraft “Jupiter” without further ado. They were used exclusively on domestic routes. Although they were quite popular with the flight crews, the lack of spare parts for the BMW engines ensured a quick end to service after just two years.
