The very first Boeing 737 rolled off the production line on December 17, 1966. 60 years later, there is no better time to look back at the beginnings of the most successful commercial aircraft family to date. What began as a short-haul aircraft with a capacity for 100 passengers grew into an entire family of aircraft, with over 12,500 units produced to date – and another 3,600 orders in Boeing’s order books. The small series begins with the N515NA: It started as a prototype of the 737-100 series and was later operated by NASA for three decades before being retired in 2003 as the very last aircraft of the 100 series. Today it is on display at the Museum of Flight in Seattle, Washington.
