Last weekend I attended the annual LLA Rally at Sywell. The event took place over three days Friday through to Sunday. Whilst I was working in the office on Friday I heard the constant throb of engines as they passed overhead and I anticipated that the airfield was starting to fill up. I did not manage to get onto the airfield that day until late in the afternoon (Fridays are always very busy!). I had not been to one of these before and I was really surprised at the quantity and variety of the light aircraft that attended. I came back the next day to complete some order packing and then onto the airfield itself to take some photos.
I plan to add a new feature to the website soon to show a picture library of all the comings and goings at Sywell and perhaps also some images of the 2015 airshows attended. I will have to be somewhat selective on the images to include as I was told by one of the regular LAA visitors that there were more aircraft movements at Sywell on Saturday than at Heathrow ! I do not know whether this is true or not, but I attempted to take a photograph of each plane at the show but gave up at around 500 plus ! I have included some here to show you the variety of aircraft and to get a sense of how many planes were littering the grass airfield. Some I recognize as old favourites, some I haven’t a clue, being more of a Warbird fanatic than a follower of Light Aircraft or Civilian types. Perhaps you can recognize them all?
The rest of my photos will have to wait for the website library as 500 plus will not fit into this week’s Newsletter !
Fortunately for the Diecast collector, Aviation 72 and Oxford Diecast are producing some of the Civilian and Trainer types that the other manufactures do not seem to be making. Tiger Moths are produced by both companies and are avidly collected along with Dragon Rapides, Puss Moths, Percival Proctors, Chipmunks, Bulldogs, Tucanos and Folland Gnats. Although I collect military subjects in the main , I have stated to take a look at these brands to add to my collection.
I have re-stocked quite a number of models to the website that I have been able to get at special prices. The quantities are not large and they will land at my warehouse at the end of this month. I have made these offers Pre-orders to give everyone a chance to take a look and order in advance of their arrival. First come first served as usual and when they have gone they will be gone for good ! I have shown a selection below, but there are more models available by clicking on the “Offer of the week” link here which will take you straight to all the models that have been added. Alternatively if you want to take a closer look at any of the models below, simply click on the image and it will take you straight to the model.
Century Wings update.
Some of you have ordered the Century Wings latest Black Lions Tomcat that I sent a note out a few days ago. This F14B has been replaced with another version of the Black Lions the F-14D VF-213 06 Final Cruise and the item no. will remain as CW001617. I will update the website as soon as I have the latest artwork images etc.
That’s it for this week.
Thank you for taking time out to read this week’s newsletter.
