The extremely impressive aircraft was originally delivered by Lockheed in 1971, and service at Dover Air Force Base in the US state of Delaware on the East Coast began in 1973. The following year, the U.S. Air Force undertook a unique test when this C-5A dropped a Minuteman intercontinental ballistic missile in flight. Later, she served for several years in the National Guard of the US state of Tennessee and was deployed on missions around the globe. A good forty years after taking up service, the aircraft’s service finally ended in 2013, and from then on it can be admired as probably the largest exhibit in the Air Mobility Command Museum, also located in Dover.
