In 1983, UPS began building its own fleet of freighters, initially with Boeing 727s. Originally built in 1979 for Western Airlines, UPS bought this trijet and converted it into a freighter in 1985. In total, UPS operated more than 70 727-100 and -200 aircraft, the last of which were in service until 2007. This novelty continues the small series of 727 models that commemorate the 60th anniversary of the now legendary three-jet aircraft.
