For a whole two months, from August to September 1991, Hungary’s Malév rented an Ilyushin IL-62M from the then still Czechoslovak CSA, which even got its own registration for this short time with the registration HA-LIA. Due to the delayed delivery of a Boeing 767, the airline was forced to sign an agreement with CSA to use the Ilyushin with the registration OK-JBJ for 200 flight hours – i.e. ten flights between Budapest and Tokyo – including flight and ground crew, in order to be able to comply with already negotiated contracts with Japanese tour operators. Contrary to the plan, only three flights to Japan were operated in the end. The IL-62 also remained the only four-engine jet in the Malév fleet. In many respects, it is a real rarity, which is now being released as a limited model on a scale of 1:200.
