Unfortunately, it has been confirmed that the Boeing 747 has been retired from Qantas service after nearly 50 years of operating the Boeing 747.
The final commercial flight of the Boeing 747 with QANTAS which was operated by VH-OEE from Santiago to Sydney leaving Santiago on Saturday March 28th 14.12 local time and arriving in Sydney on Sunday March 29th at 17.30 local time, flight number QF28 which took a time of 13 hours 18 minutes the final flight took place with many passengers not knowing this would be the final commercial flight of the Boeing 747 with Qantas.
The 747 was due to retire from QANTAS in late 2020 but because of the Covid-19 pandemic the retirement has been brought forward.
With the sudden announcement on June 25th that the 747 will be permanently retired from Qantas service a limited number of models VH-OEJ will be made which is the last active 747 stored in Australia with all the others already being ferried to the Mojave Desert awaiting their fate. VH-OEJ is due to join them in the coming days.
