Originally intended as a Soviet counterpart to the US Air Force’s B-1 strategic bomber, the TU-160 was ultimately built with about three dozen far fewer than the American model. There are currently about 16 TU-160s in service, all stationed at Engels Bomber Base. This specimen is named after Vasily Reshetnikov, a highly decorated pilot in World War II and later commander of the Soviet long-range fleet.
