Starting in 1964, BEA, and later British Airways, following the merger with BOAC, operated a fleet of helicopters on feeder and shuttle routes as well as for use on supply flights to off-shore oil platforms off the United Kingdom’s shores. In 1981, six Boeing 234, a commercial variant of the proven military CH-47, were acquired.
