The mighty fuselage of the new tanker, developed from the A330-200, holds well over 100 metric tons of fuel for delivery to other aircraft, or 45 metric tons of cargo or 300 soldiers instead. Under optimal conditions, the A330 MRTT itself can fly up to 14,800 km. The launching customer at the time was Australia, which put the aircraft into service in mid-2011. To date, there are a good ten countries whose air forces have ordered around 70 aircraft. France is one of them. There, the aircraft is named Phénix, and deliveries began to the 31st Squadron in Istres-Le Tubé in the Bouche-du-Rhone département in 2018.
